After clearing out a relatives house, we have discovered a case of Royal Household Whisky that has been sat in the basement of the house for years. All we know was that it was given as a gift to my relative.
Does anybody know how much it would be worth? What is the best way to sell it? Individual bottles or as a case? And where is the best place to sell it?
Apologies - we know nothing about whisky.
Thanks |

Hi darren
I think what you have there is a very rare premium blended whisky which was produced by James Buchanan
Does it look like this?
http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/ProductImage.aspx?pc=BLEND/ROY17&w=270
Not sure of the value but if this is the same bottle as you have it may be worth more than a few pounds. I have seen it on one website for £2250 but the site i seen it on tends to over mark up prices, even still it may be an indication that it is worth a lot if indeed it is the same bottle you have.
You say you have a case, how many bottles and are they in good condition. What is the level of the whisky in the bottles. Can you post any photos? |

Hi Darren and welcome to the SMW Forum.
There are 2 main auctioneers in the UK that specialise in selling rare and collectable whisky.
The first one is Bonhams auctioneers in Edinburgh
http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r?sContinent=EUR&screen=Whisky
Bonhams offers free and confidential valuations with a view to selling.
The second auctioneer is Mctears in Glasgow. See Mctears website for contact details www.mctears.co.uk
Auctions can be hit and miss, it just depends who the bidders are on the day.
Another option would be to contact The Whisky Exchange who not only sells rare and collectable whisky they also buy it.
If the whisky you have is the same as what Charlie says then it could be worth quite a bit.
Good luck with selling it and do let us know how you get on.

I saw it here
www.maltwhiskyworld.com/products.php?cid=106&pid=420
As i said this site tends to have high prices IMO, not somewhere i would shop or recommend shopping, even still it may be an indication that it is worth a lot if indeed it is the same bottle.
TWE did have a bottle but it is sold now but i am not sure how they sold it for

contacted that web site you gave me and they said they are not buying much at the moment so think they have over priced it and are hoping some one that doesn't have a clue buys it.
Never know though may be worth a bit need to ask mctears to value it. |
