Glengoyne Port Cask Finish

Glengoyne will now have a special cask finish as a permanent addition to their core range, with a different limited edition finish always on offer to the consumer.

The first of the new cask finishes to be launched is a limited edition 13 Year Old Port Cask Finish. I posted the press release about it last week in the news section.

Last night i found time to sit down and try it myself and i loved but i am a bit of a sucker for the port finish whiskies, well this is up their with the best of them. If like the Balvenies 21 port wood then you will definitely like this, it is one of those whiskies that almost everyone will like.

Producer's Tasting Notes:

Colour: Bright amber.
Nose: Gingerbread with walnuts and cloves, soft malt and gentle amber wood.
Taste: Clean fruity burst with spicy bubblegum, dried apricot, lemon zest and malt syrup.


My Tasting Notes:

Colour: A rich, warm amber.
Nose: Perfumed, nutmeg, sweet malt, almonds, ripe raisins.
Palate: Chewy toffee, a big fresh raisiny fruitiness, delicate vanilla oakiness and a bit of spice.
Finish: A delicious long lingering raisin sweet fruity finish slowly fading into a gentle dry nutty oakiness.

Comment: Delicious, this is one of those you had better buy another bottle before it is gone malts. Shows maturity beyond its 13 years. Don't forget although this is part of the Glengoyne core range it will be replaced by a different cask finish when sold out.

This sounds good, i do like the balvenie 21 portwood so may have to give this a try.

With the popularity of cask finishes i am surprised there arent more port cask finishes on the market so another one is very welcome.

i agree Mac, from the likes of Glenmos Quinta Ruban, Balvenies 1993 and 21 year port wood malts we know how good port cask whisky can be and there is certainly room for more port cask finishes

Maybe i am missing it but i was looking for this new Glengoyne port cask finish in the Glengoyne website shop and a few of the online whisky shops but cant fond it. William has it actually been bottled and released yet or am i just not looking hard enough.

I had looked for this also, i guess it is not available yet.

Dont know about others but i would love to see more port finished whiskies available from other distilleries.
