I need to buy a present for a 30th birthday - natural thought is to get a 30 year old.
What does the forum think in terms of something fantastic and possibly even something that appreciate in value? _________________ Jonny

| Have you considered Port Ellen. If you can get a hold of a Port Ellen 30 year old, there was a Port Ellen 2009 special release from diageo which waa excellent but i doubt you would get a hold of a bottle now, well not unless you want to pay loads for it. Douglas Laing have a few Port Ellen 30 in there Old & Rare Platinum Selection and any Port Ellen i have had from DL has been excellent. |

Have you thought about Old Pulteney can be bought from The Whisky Exchange and Royal Mile Whiskies.

I've heard really good things about Gordon & MacPhail's Strathisla 30yo.
However, if you're looking to spend a lot more then i'd go with the Brora. You can buy a sample at Master of Malt if you want to try it before committing to a bottle. |

| Personally i have had the Highland Park 30, Balvenie 30 and Glenfiddich 30 and all 3 were excellent especially the HP 30. Also got the Glenfarclas 30 at christmas which i have read good things about but i havent opened it yet. |

| I've had the Glenfarclas 30 and it's an excellent whisky, quite affordable too given its age. About half the price of Glenfiddich and 1/3 the price of the Balvenie, and I don't think Glenfiddich is twice as good if that makes any sense. |

I doubt that it was the Old Pulteney 30 year old a brilliant price for the 12 though. |

Old Pulteney 30 all the way. The tropical fruit complexity of it just knocked my socks off! And, as a bonus, it comes in a really nice presentation box. _________________ Edinburgh Whisky Blog |
