I saw a bottle of the Glenlivet 12 Year Old First Fill in the airport and was considering getting a bottle on my return journey. Am i correct in thinking this is a different expression from the standard Glenlivet 12 and more importantly is it any good.

Cheers

Your right drover it is a different expression from the standard 12. AFAIK it is exclusive to travel retail/duty free shops, i think it has been around for 4 or 5 years now.

As far as it being any good, IMO it is very good indeed and a decent price considering it is a 1 litre bottle. If you like the standard 12 you will like this i think. The bottle and packaging almost looks identical to the standard 12 so i almost didnt spot it the first time i picked it up from the airport shop. It has been matured in first fill American bourbon casks and this stands out on the nose, taste and finish and it still has the Glenlivet signature in their - apples, a malty freshness and delicious sweetness and a very light spicyness.

I have had a bottle of the Glenlivet First Fill, it is quite different from the normal 12, more oaky. Charlies description sums it up, definitely worth a try.

Cheers Charlie and Gregor, I think i will pick up a bottle on my way home on Thursday. The World Duty Free shop has a buy 2 save £10 offer just now which includes a few different Glenlivets, so i think i shall get a bottle and a bottle of Nadurra.
