Hi,
I inherited two bottles of Dimple Whisky from my father a few years ago. Can anyone give me any information about them? I think they must be a minimum 40 years old.
Thanks
James

Hi James

Dimple Scotch whisky has become famous through its triangular shaped bottle with dents which give it its name "Dimple". The brand has been in existence since the beginning of the 20th century and was created by John Haig & Sons - known in the USA as Haig & Haig Pinch.

Soon after Pinch was released in the USA it became one of the biggest selling whiskies. The shape of the bottle became very popular and was often copied, which led the Haigs to protect it and officially register it in 1919, it was the second bottle to be registered in the USA after Coca Cola.

I have heard 2 versions about the original gold wire on the bottle, one is it was to prevent the cork from popping out on stromy sea voyages, the other reason for the wire is it was to prevent the cork popping out in warm climates. Whatever the reason they still put on the wire today.

Your 2 bottles look like they are from the 1960s, if you have a look over at The Whisky Exchange they may have bottle similar to yours for sale. Dimple 1960s botlles usually sell for around £100 - £150 each shop price and about £50 - £75 in a private sale depending on condition.
