Hello all,
I'm looking for advice regarding purchasing a cask of the above whisky.
Do you know whether a special run of a peated Arran would be a sound purchase?
Many thanks,
TMM |

First of all i think a peated Arran sounds good i would love to taste it but a barrel is a whole lot of whisky.
Many people bought barrels of whisky a few few years back as an investment without realising the full cost involved. Not sure how much you know, so i apologise if you already know this. The costs are not cheap, on top of the initial purchase price for the barrel you will then have duty & taxes, bottling, labeling, transport costs any profit soon disappears for an individual.
Then there is the work involved arranging all what i mentioned then of course you have to find buyers for your whisky. With it being a private bottling you wont get as much money for it as the distillery or independent bottlings of the same age. |

Thanks for the response.
I do know a little about it as we already have a cask in Bruichladdich. This is a run of only 20 peated casks. The bumf on the site gives all the figures and building all the costs in it still seems to make sense.
Will bear all of your advice in mind before making the purchase.
Thanks again,
TMM |

| I cant see anything on the Arran website either about buying a peated cask. How heavily peated is it TMM, do they say. |

My husband showed me this which came from the site, I hope it's helpful.
the first time ever we are offering a small parcel of Peated Arran Casks to the public. Each year since 2004, we have produced a limited quantity of single malt from barley peated to a level of 20ppm. |

It is not going to be a peat monster but the 20ppm will be enough to interest the peat heads. I am sure this could be a sound purchase and as you have done this before you will be aware of all the extra costs etc.
If you decide to go for it let us know in 10 or so years when you have some for sale, i may take a bottle off your hands |
