Royal Mile Whiskies Tasting notes
Neil's Tasting Notes
Nose: Hot, rock salt initially. Strawberry laces, artificial fruit flavouring, lemon-puff biscuits. Cedar/pine wood smoke. Mild chlorine (swimming pool) and nettles. Vanilla and caramel/toffee apples and custard.
Lightly peaty vanilla ice cream.
Palate: Initially smooth and creamy, gently developing into a pleasant musty dryness (creamed mushrooms?) and warming smoke. A tingling sensation like space dust!
Top of the mouth lingering tingle, slight tarragon/mild aniseed flavour. medium length. With water it becomes more outdoorsy, fresh and summery. Pine forest, peat bog.
Overall: Lots going on with this dram. Very enjoyable, very fresh with vanilla, peat and feeling of summer in the Highlands or Islay.
Edinburgh Shop Staffs Tasting Notes
Nose: Salty water on a sandy beach with wafting smoke."? Smoked cheese and a peat fire.
Palate: Sweetness and peaty smokiness that turns mellow and very nicely balanced. The finish lacks complexity, with smoke very much to the fore
Overall: clearly young, but clearly classy.
Colm's Tasting Notes
Nose: Hubba Bubba bubblegum, smoked fish (peppered mackerel), toasted oats and medicinal notes like fresh bandages. A clean smokiness. Then earthy, gristy, and more cereal notes come out with water. Brine and seaweed, then a creamy peppercorn sauce.
Palate: Big texture, with plenty of smoke. Tingly. Water takes away the fire but not the smoke. Smokers toothpaste
Finish: Very long smoke, with a slightly sour, dry finish.
Overall: Excellent, if you like that super vibrant, youthful style.
