Just opened my Highland Park newsletter to find they are now bottling new make spirit, had a look at their website and a 35cl 50% ABV bottle is £20. Part of me is intrigued but another part of me says way too much money for a half bottle of new make. Just wondered what others thought.

I am interested to try new make sprit and the distillers are now discovering there is a market for it, but you really should get a full bottle for £20 and remember there is £10 postage at Highland Parks shop. So basicallyy £30 for a half bottle, not sure though if the HP bottle of new make will always be available or if it it is a limited release, so perhaps the price is justified.

| Releasing new make spirit does seem to be a trend amongst the distillers now, i think we will see more and more of it in the near future. It does have a limited attraction but i would guess it will be a fashion that dies out. |

| It would be good to be able to get a hold of new make spirit at a decent price to mature yourself in your own barrel. The prices they are selling the new make at makes it not worth buying as i would be looking to buy 5 - 10 litres |

I dont know why they water it down to 50%, there is no reason to do so, at least they could just water it down to 60% which is around the ABV of a cask strength whisky. Still interesting to get the chance to taste if you want.
I agree Keith not a great buy if you want to mature it in your own small barrel, would have been way better value if bottled at a higher strength. If anyone is interested Tullibardine have a 50cl bottle of Pure Pot Spirit bottled at 69% ABV for £27 |
