I went on the Friday event and what a fantastic event. I got to taste some fantastic whiskies. There was a huge range of premium drams available to taste, i think i had something special from every stall at the show. I would certainly go both days if they do this again. Usually i come back from a show having tasted one or two whiskies which i hadnt tasted before which i thought was special. I lost count of how many great drams i had here, i need to take a notebook if i go again.
The venue was great, the food was good and the whiskies where amazing. What happened to the goodie bag though as all i got was a bottle of water, a miniature would have been nice.

Mac you got to taste a number of premium drams but had a token to taste just one of the ultra premium drams, it was a hard choice but i decided to try something i could afford if i liked it. I went for the Highland Park 40 year old which was an excellent dram and is now on my christmas list to myself.

Mac | Mac, i had the pleasure of the the Speymalt Macallan 1938 65 year old. I have got to say curiosity as much as anything else attracted me to it. Can a whisky stay in the wood for over 65 years and survive, the answer is a big YES. I tried it side by side with G & Ms Macallan 1950 and again this amazed me. Jim Murrays description of these 2 whiskies in his whisky bible was spot on and i feel priviledged to have tried both of them.

Fergie | Fergie I have had the Highland Park 40, i agree an excellent dram. HP seem to have developed a talent for keeping whisky in the wood longer and producing some seriosly good whiskies. I was lucky enough to attend the launch tasting of the new Highland Park Orcadian Vintages Series 1964 & 1968 vintages at The Whisky Show on Friday. Again HP have came up with 2 seriously good whiskies, albeit out of my price range. You can read more about them and the new Highland Park Orcadian Series here www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/highlandparkorcadianseries.htm
Overall for me The Whisky Show was an amazing event, it gave me the chance to taste whiskies that i could only imagine about and also compare whiskies that are in my price range but you never get the chance to try before you buy.
Other memorable whiskies from the event which i hadnt had the pleasure of before:
Dalmore 40
Dalmore 1981 28 year old
Ardbeg 1976
Glengoyne 40
Glenlivet 1973 Cellar Collection
Douglas Laing 43 year old Speyside bottled for The Whisky Show 2009 (great dram, always been a fan of Glenfarclas, oops did i say that out loud shh)
Some more affordable whisky which impressed:
Compass Box Lady Luck (loved it, in fact loved everything i had from the Compass box stand)
Glenglassaugh 21 year old - if they can reproduce this quality with their young maturing stock Glenglassaugh will certainly have a winner.
Diageo Special Releases ( I think i tried all them and couldnt fault any, loved the Benrinnes 23 and the Talisker 30)
Bowmore Tempest
Adelphi had a few crackers on their stand also, such as the Bunnahabhain 1997 from a rare batch of heavily peated Bunna, also a very nice Caol Ila 1982. This is a independent bottler which is sometimes missed by malt drinkers but they do turn out some crackers.
Cooley was their flying the flag for Ireland, I do enjoy their Connemara range - i think we will be seeing some great things from Cooley in the future.
There was rare and unique drams to be had at every stand at the show. There where so many more than i could mention here but i wont bore you any longer, overall a superb event and hopefully it will be repeated next year.

William, i agree the Compass Box Lady Luck was excellent, i also had the Peat Magnum which was good.
I had the Glenglassaugh 21 myself for the first time, definitely a distillery to watch for the future.
Had a few Fettercairns which impressed me but for the life of me i cant recall the ages, i think they where 20 something up to 40 yo.
I have to say it was a great event, the best selection of whisky i have seen at any event.

Glenglassaugh and Fettercairn are both malts you dont see much of, interesting that you thought they where good John. A sign of good things to come.
It all sounds like it was a great event, i am so envious.
