I got the chance to taste a few Kilchoman whiskies last night, Machir Bay, 100% Islay and a bottle whiich Antony Wills had bottled by hand straight from the cask before travelling to Edinburgh. This single cask whisky was from one of the oldest casks maturing at Kilchoman, it is 7 years old and was bottled at cask strength so it is about a couple of years older than anything which has been released so far. The single cask Kilchoman will never be released but will be available to taste at the Whisky Fringe this weekend as the special "half time orange" dram at the Kilchoman stall and it is a cracker. It shows you how well Kilchoman is developing. One to look out for if you are going along to the Whisky Fringe.
Is this the one being bottled by Royal Mile Whiskies? I bought their last bottling after last year fringe; it was epic!!

No, this one hasnt been bottled, it is still maturing on Islay, Antony filled one bottle straight from the cask this week and has brought it to Edinburgh as a special bottling to let people try. What is special about it is that it is older than any Kilchoman whisky that has been available to date and it is a cracker as i said, you can taste the peat is starting to mellow a little with age. I believe Royal Mile also have a single cask bottling but i havent tasted it.

I have no doubt they are all great drams but I always wonder how honest these lists are, maybe i am a bit of a cynic but are they a marketing tool.

Hmm, that's interesting so it's their intention to keep on bottling 3-4 year old whisky long into the future?
