Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard is adding to its collection of Single Pot Still Whiskeys of Midleton this weekend at Whisky Live Paris, with the launch of Redbreast 12 Year Old Cask Strength - the portfolio's first permanent cask strength bottling.

Produced at Midleton Distillery, Redbreast 12 Year Old Cask Strength is Redbreast in its natural full-flavoured state - straight from the cask, non-chill filtered and without the addition of water. Bottled at 57.7% ABV, this first batch will be available from September 2011 in Ireland, France and Germany and in the US from February next year. There are no current plans to launch Redbreast 12 Year Old Cask Strength in the UK but I am sure it will find its way to some of the whisky specialist shops in the UK.

Good to see Midleton releasing different expressions. I would love to try this one myself

Sounds good, do you know what price this will be William. I have a friend who is over in Ireland every once and a while through work who would get me a bottle if i asked nicely.

I added a review of the Redbreast 12 Year Old Cask Strength to the site yesterday.

I spent the weekend enjoying these two fine Irish ladies.

This first batch of Redbreast 12 Year Old Cask Strength comes from just 68 casks comprising of a combination of first fill sherry butts and first fill bourbon barrels which were hand selected by Master Blender, Billy Leighton. The proportion of sherry and bourbon casks are the same as what goes into the standard Redbreast 12 year old. This first batch of Redbreast Cask Strength yielded approximately 18,000 bottles or approximately 1,400 9L case equivalents.

The bottle and box carries a batch number and year so I would guess that this would perhaps make this first batch quite collectable in the future and the reason I say that is it is an absolute cracker. So get it while you can!!!

Wonderful sherry and spices, you just want to pour yourself another. The balance of rich fruit, spice and oak is perfect. Interestingly adding a drop of water doesn't turn it into a standard Redbreast 12 (I tried), it keeps its big rich sherried fruit, spice and vanilla character, I guess this is to do with the number of casks in the batch being much smaller than the number going into a standard Redbreast 12.

An absolute cracker, loved it!!!

I think the Redbreast Cask Strength may be one for my Christmas stocking, admittedly a bit pricey but i just want to try try it as i have always loved the Redbreast 12

I noticed that the standard Redbreast 12 year old has went up in price, now Â£39.95 over at TWE, that is a helluva increase
