House of Hazelwood 25 Year Old Review

24th March 2016

Review of the new House of Hazelwood 25 Year Old premium Scotch blended whisky.

House of Hazelwood 25 Year Old ReviewHouse of Hazelwood 25 year old sits at the top of William Grant's new premium Scotch blended whisky range.

William Grant describe the new brand as an elegant and vivacious new blended Scotch whisky which has been inspired by the Grant family luminary Janet Sheed Roberts (1901 to 2012) and expressed through the spirit of the great Art Deco cities that influenced the world in her heyday.

The House of Hazelwood 25 Year Old takes its inspiration from the classic elegance of Shanghai, a city which stood at the centre of Cathay elegance in the 1920s. This release represents the Master Blender Brian Kinsman's most prized expression. Each rare single malt earned its place in Kinsman’s final selection, and the blend was then married in American oak, allowing sufficient time for the complex and diverse flavours to infuse and mellow. They describe the resultant majestic whisky as unique, rare and very special.

Presented in a 50cl bottle and bottled at 40% ABV,  the House of Hazelwood 25 Year Old has an RRP of £115.

The packaging is also inspired by the classic elegance of Shanghai in the 1920s. The design focuses on the creation of a distinctive visual leitmotif associated with the luminosity of the city.

The House of Hazelwood whisky range was initially launched in Paris Duty Free at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport in February 2016, it will remain exclusively in travel retail until September 2016 when it will then launch in a few select markets around the world.

If you are not lucky enough to be jetting off anywhere in the next 6 months and passing through an airport which offers the new House of Hazelwood range then you will find a superb range of premium blended whiskies as well a huge range of single malt whiskies available from specialist Whisky retailers such as The Whisky Exchange

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: A lovely maple syrup sweetness, lively vanillas dovetails with with sharp marmalade, a little grassiness hiding in the background.

Taste: Juicy barley leads closely followed by sweet vanilla, a little honey and some very lively oak spices, orange citrus, delicious!!

Finish: A deliciously long finish. Vanilla, orange citrus and oak spice all want to stay until the end but it is the 25 year old oak which has the most staying power.

Comment: This sits at the top of the new House of Hazel wood range, just where it belongs, delicious and not a bad price for a 25 year old. I would say this is one to savour late at night sitting back in your favourite chair with your feet up.

SMW Blended Whisky Score 94/100
