Anybody else think the bidding on this month's Whiskyhammer auction is a bit slow?
I have a few lots in and several of them are not off the mark yet.
A quick search shows that nearly 1000 lots out of 4348 are either not off the mark or on minimum £20 bid.
Sure it'll come all right in the wash, as they say. |

I hadnt been watching but you have now got me looking out to see if i can pick up a bargain or two. I would guess Brexit is having an impact, they do not currently ship to France, Sweden, Italy or Poland |

Possibly Brexit effect. They now highlight items from non-UK sellers which attract 20% vat on hammer price. That will cause a correction to prices.
Prices for Premier League bottles is holding up but you might get bargains amongst the day to day drinkers. |

I got some good deals from SWA last auction. Brexit seems to have done a good job at slowing down the auction nonsense.
One can only hope prices will keep decreasing over time, who knows what'll happen in 12 months. The "names" still sell for a ridiculous premium (like everything Ardbeg, Macallan, etc.) but the price of obscure indies - i.e. the stuff that's good for drinking - are somewhat less crazy imho. |

Yeah it is an interesting one. Given macro inflation is likely to be higher for some time I was thinking that investors etc. might pile into ‘assets’ like whisky pushing up prices. If that doesn’t come to fruition though, or is offset due to brexit etc. then excellent! _________________ Whisky is a form of art.

I'd say it's a chance to pick up a bargain.
Noticing some recent limited release and festival bottles going for pretty much cost price in the most recent SWA auction.
Seems to be a LOT of flipping with 8 or 10 of the same bottle on the live auctions. Could dilute the market sufficiently to get a good buy. |

Yeah, I have noticed the indies are not reaching such high prices even those for Ben nevis and Clynelish. Makes me wonder though why such bottles go in a blink of an eye at retail. Normally you'd think flippers with bots?
Does this mean if they are beginning to lose money on Adelphis latest etc, that they will hang around with retailers?
Would be nice to get hold of one of those sherried ben nevis' or Caol ila's.
Time will tell. |

Apparently it's just a seasonal drop in demand. I noticed that some auctions were even extended by 1 day. Apparently low demand. |

Looks that way. Top of the range stuff seems to be doing ok but run of the mill bottles not so good.
Bargains to be had! |

According to google trands, there will be an increase in the late autumn.
In the meantime, you can try to get something at a good price. |
