Here are my taste notes today for the JW Double Back that I just cracked open.
Neat-
Nose: Turkish delight (Big Turk chocolate bar), dark fruit, sweet peat, nutty nougat and McIntosh apples. Mandarin oranges in heavy syrup squeeze into the picture. Pistachio nuts dripping with burnt sugar (caramelized) and delectable orange Angel food cake show themselves with late pungent lemon furniture polish. Swiss chocolate covered apple pulls up the rear along with smoldering pungent pipe tobacco.
Taste: A peaty flare, sweet espresso, Kalamata olives, oily, spice and peppery notes.
Finish: Long, earthy tone with micro flakes of demerara sugar followed by mild spice and peat shadows that continue to caress over time. Dark chocolate layers "chime in" politely. Smoky black licorice seeps in as the clock ticks.
My Rating: 95 This J.W. expression has it all. The nose is a cornucopia of aromas with quality and depth. The palate is substantial and the finish exhilarating. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I have heard it said that the JW Doulble Black "bridges between the big single-malt flavors of a Laphroaig 10-year or Lagavulin 12-year". It includes single malts from two well-known Diageo distilleries, Caol Ila (from Islay) and Talisker (from the Isle of Skye) and grain whisky. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
