An excellent lightly peated and fruity Japanese single malt, expensive in the UK so probably overlooked by many, around £64 here. |

A great whisky to try for those new to Japanese whisky, fruity and lightly peated as Crane says, a quality malt. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

It is around 54.99 USD here before tax and shipping and after all that junk it would be 72.00 USD give or take a few bucks. _________________ The Laga 16.

I would describe the Hakushu as being like Yamazaki with some added peat. It is expensive for a 12 year old but then most of the Japanese whiskies are expensive which is a pity as i would love to explore the older Japanese malts but they aint priced for everyday dramming. |

I love the Hakushu 12, I've only had it a couple of times in bars because as Grant says it's not priced for everyday drinking, but it's really impressed me. I agree with the Yamazaki comparison, but I would add that I find the Hakushu a lot more interesting, with more depth (this isn't a criticism of the Yamazaki btw, I just really like the Hakushu 12!) |

I have this as one of my every days, but maybe that's a budget thing.
I wouldn't say it's anything like Yamazaki really....the sherry is very very light and it's mainly bourbon matured. Comparison wise it's like a north shore Islay if anything, but you can't really compare Japanese whiskey with Scotch.
Maturation in Japan can be up to 50% quicker than Scotland so it's more like a 16-18yo in terms of complexity which makes the price more acceptable. To me it's one of the best 12yo's anywhere on the planet. Period.
If it were me then I'd get one....but I've got enough of this already _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |
