I was looking at the Karuizawa Spirit of Asama which is exclusive to The Whisky Exchange, has anyone tried it. Karuizawa always seems to get good reviews and there is usually only quite expensive single cask bottlings available but this is a vatting from about 77 casks, so TWE have a whole lot of it to sell.
Its not a bad price at £61.95 but i thought i would wait on some reviews before taking the plunge |

This is one i havent tried but i have heard good things about Karuizawa. Tempting at this price. I think i will wait on some reviews also as it sounds like The Whisky Exchange have got themselves a shed load of the stuff so i doubt it will sell out in a hurry. |

Just had a look at TWE, i dont know who writes their descriptions as i am unfamiliar with this whisky brand and maybe i am missing something but is this a sherried whisky or not
What does this mean Quote: | It's a different prospect to the various single casks that shoot off the shelves, offering a great tasting overview of the distillery's character unencumberd by decades of sherry cask maturation. |
It tells me nothing, I think the writer may live in his own world as his description is no good to me. |

I see what you mean Mac, i am guessing the description means it is a young sherried whisky. It also looks sherried going by the image but it could have a fake tan. |

I got given this as a present last year.
It's a single single in a sherry cask. I understand that there are two versions, at 47 and 55 respectively. My tasting notes are below for the 55:
Deep musty nose with elements of chocolate lingering. Sweet spicy taste full of sherry flavour with a long lasting dry spicy finish. Tobacco / cigar overtones throughout.
Overall it's a solid dram, definitely one to bring out on a tasting night. From what I know, for a single single at a now defunct distillery, the price is very reasonable. Definitely one for the sherried dram lovers out it there. |
