I opened my new bottle of Grant's 18 late this afternoon and here are my taste notes.
Color: Sunset Amber
Nose: Caramelized bananas drift into olfactory awareness with a cornucopia of sweet cherries, pineapple, oranges and grapes. Sweetish pipe tobacco meanders into the liquid portrait, the port influence figure to its ground. Pungent honeysuckle joins the party bringing concentrated honey as its date.
Taste: Full-bodied yet silky smooth with surprising depth suggestive of a higher abv than exists with a melange of citrus sweetness and more intense spice elements.
Finish: Long, dark fruit sound the trumpet with Black Forest cake and shades of black licorice. Again the port cask finish explodes with layers of grape, some pleasant earthy tones and resurgence of pipe tobacco.
Comments: The whisky captures the qualities of a first class blended scotch and offers balance and integrity. A heady delightful whisky which soars on the port cask finish.
My Score: 89.5 (My heart says it should be 90). _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
