The Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso Matured Review

The Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso which uniquely is the first major Glenlivet bottling (other than single cask bottlings) in living memory to be matured solely in ex-sherry casks.

As the knowledgeable whisky drinkers amongst you will already know first-fill, ex-Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez in Spain impart rich, distinctive dried fruits aromas, warm spices, and notes of cinnamon. The spirit combined with the cask influence, produces a sweetness of dark chocolate and a finish which is long and sweet with a slightly dry, spicy effect from the European oak maturation..

The Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso Matured ReviewWilliam Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Bottled at a cask strength of 60.3% ABV

Nose: A big rich fruity, spicy nose. Demerara sugar sweetness, rum and raisin fudge coated in creamy chocolate.

Taste: The taste confirms the nose. A rum and raisin fudge delivery followed by lively sweet oak spice lightly coated in orange and creamy chocolate. A touch of cinnamon.

Finish: A lovely long deliciously lingering finish. The sugars slowly fade leaving the mildly drying oak spice.

Comment: If you are a fan of big cask strength sherried drams like the Aberlour a'bunadh then you will love this also, but this is a smoother, more mature and more refined whisky. A lovely smooth big sherried cask strength dram packed with raisins, orange, vanilla and oak spice and it still has the refinement you find in the Nadurra family of cask strength single malts.

The other great thing about this is for those of you who do enjoy big cask strength sherried drams, there is always a new batch just around the corner and every batch will have similar DNA but will never be exactly the same and if the consistency of quality matches up to the Aberlour a'bunadh then the Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso will be entertaining us for a long time to come.

SMW Score 92/100

The Glenlivet Nadurra First Fill Selection is priced around £45 which is a great price for a whisky this good bottled at cask strength. Can you tell I am a Nadurra fan. The Glenlivet Nadurra First Fill Selection is available from specialist whisky shops such as The Whisky Exchange
