Whyte & Mackay’s
Master Blender Goes Up For
Sale…
Whyte & Mackay has today 16th September
2009, announced the launch of a new
bespoke whisky service that comes with a
- wait for it - £20,000 price tag.
The unique service will see customers
spend three days with Whyte & Mackay’s
multi-award winning master blender,
Richard ‘The Nose’ Paterson where he
will get to know their likes and
dislikes before creating a unique
personalised whisky based on their personality.
Bosses at the Scottish whisky firm are
confident that, despite the credit
crunch, whisky enthusiasts will be
willing to part with their cash to spend
time with the world renowned master
blender who will create a tailor made
dram, just for them.
The idea was borne following Richard’s
recent appearance on ‘Made in Scotland’,
a TV programme exploring the iconic
symbols that make Scotland
internationally famous, where Richard
explained the whisky blending process to
actor David Hayman, best known for roles
alongside Pierce Brosnan, Bruce Willis
and Kevin Spacey and created a whisky
based on David’s personality and tastes.
Richard then took the idea a step
further by creating a series of one-off
whiskies based on the personalities of
high profile stars including Sean
Connery, Ewan McGregor, Barack Obama and
Homer Simpson whose whisky was described
as ‘a well-rounded dram that packs a
punch’. Whyte & Mackay received hundreds
of enquiries on the back of the bespoke
whiskies, and has now launched this
service for whisky fans at a cost of
£20,000.
And while most Brits continue to look
after the pennies in these credit crunch
times, Whyte & Mackay claims there is a
demand for this first-of-its-kind,
completely bespoke experience.
Richard Paterson said: “Following my
appearance on STV and online we have
received hundred of enquiries about the
chance to make your own whisky with my
help. So we have launched this service,
which won’t be for everybody, but will
appeal to those looking for an unusual,
unique gift for others or even for
themselves.
“It is increasingly common now for
people to have their luxury goods tailor
made to suit their own specific desires.
By offering this service we have created
a great opportunity to own a one-off
bespoke whisky that may even increase in
value over time.
“I will spend time getting to know their
likes, dislikes and personality to
create a completely one-of-a-kind whisky
– and of course a dram or two will be
raised as we bond. Only one bottle of
each individual bottle will ever be
made… it will be a whisky to treasure
forever.”
Richard became Scotland’s youngest
master blender at the age of 26 and his
nosing techniques; thirst for knowledge
and inimitable style have cemented him
as one of the whisky industry’s highly
sought-after characters.
