Whyte & Mackay Glasgow International Comedy Festival 2019

If you will be lucky enough to be in or around Glasgow between the 14th and 31st March and you are looking for a good night out, a good laugh and perhaps a drink or two then why not check out the Whyte & Mackay Glasgow International Comedy Festival 2019 which consists of 506 shows which will be taking place across 54 venues around the city of Glasgow over just 18 days.

Glasgow whisky company, Whyte & Mackay, which was established 175 years ago in the city (although I can't confirm if Richard Paterson was the Whyte & Mackay whisky blender back then) is obviously still up for a good laugh despite its advancing age given its support for what is now the biggest comedy festival in Europe. The festival is set to bring some of the top household names as well as some of the best up and coming comedy talent to the city with this years festival programme spanning everything from comedy shows to sketches, the best of character comedy and late night festival clubs.

You will find some of the very best international comedy talent performing at the festival including Julian Clary, Reg D Hunter, Larry Dean, Jerry Sadowitz, Al Murray, Jasper Carrott, Elaine C Smith, Foil, Arms & Hog, Russell Kane, Des Clarke, Rich Hall and Scot Squad star Cameron Miekelson.

You will also find some of the very best of Scotlandís home grown comedy talent performing at the festival including Phil Kay, Iain Connell, Rob Florence, Ashley Storrie, Mark Nelson, Chris Forbes, Jay Lafferty and Gary Meikle. The festival also provides a platform for rising local stars, this year including Christopher MacArthur Boyd, Susie McCabe, Stephen Buchanan and Marc Jennings.

I had the pleasure of attending the Whyte & Mackay Glasgow International Comedy Festival 2019 launch event at The Stand in Glasgow on Wednesday night this week which was hosted by Des Clarke and it gave me a taster of what is to come during the festival, over the evening I saw around 20 comedians ply their trade in the intimate venue. It was a fantastic night and if you are looking for any suggestions for some shows to catch over the festival other than the established household names we are all familiar with I would suggest catching Jay Lafferty who will be performing her show "Wheest" at the Blackfriars Bar on the 22nd March. Another act which I think will be worth catching after getting a taster of it on Wednesday night is Mark Nelson's brilliantly dark and very clever "Brexit Wounds" which he will be performing at The Stand on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th March.
