Angus Dundee announce release of the rare Tomintoul 40 Year Old Quadruple Cask.

Tomintoul 40 Year Old Quadruple CaskAngus Dundee have announced the launch of a the very rare Tomintoul 40 Year Old Quadruple Cask. Why is it called "Quadruple Cask"? It is because the whisky is made up of four American oak hogshead casks which have been maturing in the Tomintoul distillery warehouse since 1974.

Now considering that Tomintoul was only established 10 years earlier in 1964 and that we are now in an age when stocks of older single malt Scotch whiskies are becoming a rarity it is unlikely that we will see many more casks of 40 years plus from this era emerging from the Tomintoul warehouse.

Tomintoul Master Distiller Robert Fleming whose family has been distilling whisky for generations; nosed and tasted each cask from the 1974 year of distillation as they rested peacefully in the corners of the Tomintoul distillery warehouses, Robert considered these of such truly outstanding quality and attributes that they were selected for their own unique Quadruple cask bottling.

The rare Tomintoul expression is presented in a hand-crafted crystal decanter which has been individually numbered. The gift box has been especially designed to provide a unique presentation featuring a twin door opening with cushioned padding on the inside. The wooded exterior is finished in a fabulous matt black lacquer. Customised spaces on the inside accommodate a crystal glass stopper and an information leaflet.

Bottled at 43.1% ABV, the Tomintoul 40 year old quadruple cask release is a limited release of 500 bottles, it has an RRP of £2,500 / €3,375 / US$3,750.

The Tomintoul 40 Year Old Quadruple Cask will be available from from specialist whisky shops such as The Whisky Exchange

Finish: Gentle oaky-spice swirls with sweet liquorice.
