The Angels
Share Four Friends, One Mission, Lots of
Spirit
It has been dubbed Scotland’s answer to
the Full Monty – but a fairer
description of Ken Loach’s new comedy
Angels’ Share might be Whisky Galore
crossed with Trainspotting.
The comedy heist follows the fortunes of
Robbie, a young father and ex-offender
who has narrowly avoided being handed a
jail sentence.
While serving a community sentence he
meets Rhino, Albert and Mo who, like
him, are finding it impossible to get
work because of their criminal records.
Searching for a way out of his old life,
Robbie turns to Scotland’s finest malts
to forge a brighter future for his young
family. But the lads soon get involved
in a scheme to make money stealing a
rare whisky.
As all you whisky drinkers will already
know Angels’ Share is the name
given to the whisky that evaporates as
the spirit matures in casks. The movie
was filmed
around Dennistoun in Glasgow and also in
Edinburgh and the Highlands as well as
in three distilleries you may recognise,
look out for Glengoyne, Deanston and
Balblair distilleries. Also look out for
an appearance by whisky writer Charles
Maclean who features in the movie trailer above.
Angels’ Share will premiere at the
Cannes Film Festival, where it has been
nominated for the event’s prestigious
Palme d’Or award.
The Angels’ Share will open in the UK on
June 1st 2012.
