Whisky Focus - Talisker Neist Point

Talisker release Neist Point, a new travel retail exclusive premium expression.

Talisker Neist Point (pronounced "Neest") is a new premium no age statement travel retail exclusive single malt whisky. Bottled at the usual Talisker strength of 45.8% ABV and you will be pleased to hear it is non chill-filtered.

The new whisky takes its name, "Neist Point" from the most westerly headland on the Isle of Skye where Talisker malt whisky is produced. Neist Point carries no age statement and is comprised of a blend of whiskies from a wide range of ages which have been matured predominately in refill American oak casks that have been hand selected by malt master Craig Wilson for their elegance and refinement. They tell me that the different aged and flavoured whiskies have been deliberately brought together for their diverse flavours.

Talisker Malt Master Craig Wilson commented: "Using casks from a wide variety of different wood type and ages, I’ve captured the differing flavour profiles of Talisker, incorporating fiery, spicy and sweeter vanilla notes. By using some of our finest, rare casks that have been left to rest longer, Talisker Neist Point delivers an incomparable flavour journey with an extra-refined, sweet, smoky, finish that engulfs the palate, wave after wave."

Although the new expression carries no age statement it is aimed at travellers who want to trade up to a new more premium expression of Talisker, hopefully at £115 a go it is exactly that a premium expression of Talisker. If I get the chance to taste it I will certainly let you know what I think of it.

Talisker Neist Point is bottled at 45.8% ABV and is presented in a 70cl bottle it is now available in global travel retail, with an RRP of £115/US$179/€147.
