Whisky Focus - Sainsbury's Supermarket Whisky Picks Up Top IWSC Award

Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Highland Single Malt triumphs at IWSC 2015.

With the what seems like the forever increasing prices of quality Scotch single malt whiskies it is pleasing to hear that one great value supermarket own label whisky has  triumphed at this years International Wine and Spirit Competition.

At this years competition some of the supermarket spirit entries have come away with top medals including a prestigious Scotch Trophy.

So what is this must try great value supermarket own label single malt?

It is Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky which was voted by judges as the winner of the Single Malt Scotch Whisky Trophy with no age statement. Anyone wondering which distillery the Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Highland Single Malt originated from, here is a clue, the whisky was produced by Whyte & Mackay Distillers Ltd.

Eight of the competition’s Gold and Gold Outstanding accolades awarded this year went to supermarket own labels competing in the same arena as big name brands. The awards are a real tribute to the spirits which have all undergone the IWSC’s rigorous judging process which includes a double blind tasting from the spirit industry’s top palates.

Shopper’s baskets up their creds, as top winning spirits are now as accessible as bread and milk. Vodkas from value supermarkets Asda, Morrison’s, Spar and Lidl won coveted Gold awards for their own label liquids:
