Situation Vacant - The Shetland Distillery Company seek graduate to develop new spirits at UK’s most northerly distillery.

The Shetland Distillery Company, the makers of the award-winning Shetland Reel Gin are looking for a skilled graduate to help them develop new products.

They are seeking someone to join the small team in Unst, the UK’s most northerly island, headed by spirits industry specialist Stuart Nickerson.

The Shetland Distillery Company launched Shetland Reel Gin in August last year and after just over six months on the market it won a silver medal at the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, one of the world’s biggest.

Importers have asked the company, which recently launched a bottled in Shetland single malt Scotch whisky, to develop new products so that they can offer a wider range, including a higher strength gin.

Development work is already under way at the distillery, located on the former RAF Saxa Vord base, on a new and distinctly different type of gin and the new product developer would be closely involved in scaling up production.

Mr Nickerson said: "We’re really excited about the development of the distillery in Unst and are looking to build on our success so far by developing new products to complement Shetland Reel Gin and Shetland Reel Single Malt Scotch.

"We’re looking for someone with knowledge of brewing and distilling and an understanding of business finances to help us bring new products to the market.

"It’s a great opportunity to work as part of a very skilled and experienced team and to learn as well as contribute to the success of the business in a beautiful part of the world.”

The year-long appointment, part-funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund, has a salary of £18,000 plus a benefits package including accommodation at Saxa Vord Resort.
