Beware of
another shaggy dog story as Douglas Laing
launch Scallywag 13 year old.
It was just over 3 years ago now that
the folks at Glasgow based independent
bottler Douglas Laing launched the
Speyside blended malt whisky Scallywag,
they have since followed it up with a
couple of limited edition cask strength
expressions of the whisky and they have
just announced the release of Scallywag
13 Year Old, the first whisky under
Douglas Laing's Remarkable Regional
Malts Speyside series to carry an age statement.
I will spare you from the shaggy dog
story behind the Scallywag brand as I am
sure you have heard it all before and I
will simply share with you the details I
have of the new Scallywag 13 Year Old
expression, it was matured exclusively
in sherry butts, and like other
expressions of Scallywag it has been
bottled without colouring or
chill-filtration, and the new 13 year
old has been bottled at 46% ABV.
Unfortunately I haven't yet had a chance to
taste the new 13 year old expression but
if the original no age statement classic
sherried Speyside Scallywag is
anything to go by it should be worth a
try but I suppose there is no guarantees
especially with sherry casks involved.
Scallywag 13 year old has a RRP of £50 and
you will soon find it available from whisky
specialist shops such as

Scallywag 13 Year Old Review
|
Producer's Tasting Notes:
Nose: The nose is big, dark, distinctly sherried, raisin-y
with home-baked fruitcake and molasses
to the fore.
Taste: The sweet dark sherry opens, then detect late vanilla,
nutmeg and ginger mixing with rich
cereal tones.
Finish: Spiced finish offering a
long and wagging tail-end of mocha.
