Douglas Laing
launch first sherry influenced Rock
Oyster Blended Malt whisky.
Douglas
Laing have unveiled yet another addition to
its Remarkable Regional Malts range of Blended Malt whiskies. This
time have released Rock Oyster Sherry
Edition which is a no age statement limited
edition Island region
blended malt and the first Rock Oyster
expression to have a Sherry influence, having
spent the final spell of its maturation
in Spanish Sherry butts.
Douglas Laing say that the resulting
liquid is said to "capture the spirit of
Island Whisky in all its salty, citrus,
sweetly peated and peppery glory, with a
rich, sherried warmth at its core".
Bottled at 46.8% ABV and as we expect
from Douglas Laing releases, it is
naturally coloured and is non
chill-filtered.
Apparently the Rock Oyster Sherry
Edition launch coincides with National
Oyster Day, a global celebration of the
delicacy that is held annually on 5th
August, who would have known! I bet the
romantics amongst you are now glad you
read this piece as you can now take your
your better half out for a romantic meal
on Saturday 5th August and indulge in
some oysters along with a dram of the
new Rock Oyster.
Of course you will need to visit one of
the venues serving Rock Oyster, you will
find the recently-launched Rock Oyster
18 Year Old will join the core product
and the new Sherry edition as part of
seafood-pairing experience at events
held in various UK venues including
Galley London in London on 5th August
2017.
Rock Oyster also features as "Malt of
the Month" across multiple venues in the
UK including Gandolfi Fish, Piper Bar
and the world-famous Ben Nevis Whisky
bar in Glasgow’s West End. Look out for
the Rock Oyster atomisers, designed to
add a spritz of Rock Oyster smoke to
seafood dishes, and branded tea towels
for oyster-shucking.
I haven't actually got an official
tasting note for the new no age
statement Rock Oyster Sherry Edition
which I can share with you other than a
comment from Fred Laing saying: "Rock
Oyster Sherry Edition is a lip-smacking
success story of the magic that can
happen when sweet meets peat." DL
failed to reveal the price of the new
whisky which is becoming a trend these
days when whisky companies announce a
new whisky, anyway I would hazard a
guess at between £40 - £45 but I may be
way out.
You will
soon find the new
Rock Oyster Sherry Edition available from
specialist online whisky shops such as
The Whisky Exchange &
Master of Malt
