Old Pulteney
Ducansby Head new travel retail
exclusive.
Ducansby
Head is the second of three new
bottlings from Old Pulteney in their Old
Pulteney Lighthouse Series which is
exclusive to travel retail.
Old Pulteney Ducansby Head features a
bright coral red label and tube,
the eye catching packaging depicts an
image of Duncansby Head lighthouse.
Situated near to John O’Groats at the
very northern tip of Scotland, the
lighthouse protected a dangerous part of
the Pentland Firth where the Atlantic
waters flow into the North Sea.
Matured
in ex American bourbon and ex Spanish
sherry casks, the whisky has a sweet
full bodied taste with notes of honey,
chocolate and oranges. Bottled at 46%
ABV, with a RRP of £44.99
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Honey, vanilla, orange and raisins.
Taste:
Some mild oak spice, lemon peel,
vanilla, some peachy notes, some
youthful sherried notes that hasn't yet
quite married with the more mature bourbon.
Finish:
Honeyed, bit of spice, some orange, a
mild slowly drying mild young sherried
oakiness.
Comment:
A vanilla, honeyed, raisiny dram, a very
easy to drink Pulteney for any occasion.
I do suspect that the ex Spanish sherry
casks in the vatting is quite young and
would have benefited from marrying a
little longer
with the ex American bourbon casks in
the vatting. Still a very enjoyable
dram.
