Midleton Dair Ghaelach Leads Irish Distillers Medal Haul

26th October 2017
Midleton Dair Ghaelach single pot still whiskey continues to impress.

Midleton Dair GhaelachIt is great to see Irish Distiller's impressive whiskey range picking up an equally impressive haul of medals at the Beverage Testing Institute (BTI) with nine Gold or above awards.

Leading the way at the awards was a whiskey we rarely hear mentioned, probably due to its limited availability, and in my humble opinion is amongst the best Irish single pot still whiskeys ever to be released, the Midleton Dair Ghaelach.

Midleton Dair Ghaelach won a Platinum medal BTIs highest honour - and was praised by the judges for its classic rich, spicy single pot still taste profile. It scored 97/100, making it the the no.1 Irish Whiskey and the joint second highest scoring whisk(e)y in the entire competition.

For those of you those of you not familiar with the limited release Midleton Dair Ghaelach (Pronounced Dar Gay Lock), it is a combination of 15 to 22 year old single pot still whiskey which has been matured primarily in refill American oak bourbon barrels and the first ever Irish whiskey to be finished in virgin Irish oak Hogshead casks which have been sourced from Grinsell's Wood in the Ballaghtobin Estate, County Kilkenny, Ireland.

Each bottle can be traced back to one of ten 130 year old Irish oak trees from the Ballaghtobin Estate and has been finished in the Irish oak for almost 1 year and if you have ever had the pleasure of Dair Ghaelach you will agree that this latest award from the Beverage Testing Institute is well deserved as it truly is an outstanding whiskey.

It wasn't just the Midleton Dair Ghaelach that impressed the judges at the BTI awards, it seems the whiskey makers at Midleton have a golden touch when it comes to their single pot still whiskey as their outstanding Redbreast 12 Cask Strength also picked up a Platinum award, and their Redbreast 12, Redbreast 15 and Redbreast 21 each winning Gold medals and their Redbreast Lustau not far behind them with a silver medal.

Brian Nation, Master Distiller at Irish Distillers, commented on the latest medal haul for Midleton, saying: "We are thrilled to see more fantastic results for Irish Distillers' Prestige range at a global spirit tasting competition. Over the course of the 2017 awards season each of our Prestige ranges Redbreast, Midleton, Powers, Spot and Method and Madness have won acclaim. Midleton Dair Ghaelach and Redbreast 12 Cask Strength have enjoyed the limelight at the Beverage Testing Institute and we look forward to further wins in 2018. Its great to be able to raise a glass once again to the passionate and skilled production team at Midleton."

You will find them all these Irish whiskeys including the outstanding Midleton Dair Ghaelach available from specialist whisky shops such as Master of Malt and The Whisky Exchange
