Method and
Madness launch a rare 28 year old Ruby
Port Pipe matured single cask whiskey.
This
Method and Madness 28 Year Old Ruby Port
Pipe Single Cask Single Pot Still
whiskey is the second recent limited
edition Irish single pot still whiskey
release in the Method and Madness
whiskey range, the experimental Irish
whiskey brand from Irish Distillers
which launched only last year.
This really is a special limited edition
in that rarely do we ever see a single
pot still single cask whiskey of this
age, and to add to its rarity and inline
with the experimental nature of the
brand it has had a rather off the normal
beaten track journey of maturation for a
single pot still whiskey.
The 28 year old single pot still Irish
whiskey matured initially for six years
in American oak barrels, before being
re-casked into a Ruby Port pipe for a
further 22 years. The cask was carefully
seasoned with a selection of wines to
remove some of the heavy tannins and
further seasoned with Ruby Port,
infusing rich fruit flavours. Irish
distillers tell me that the whiskey is
alive with notes of ripe stone fruit on
the nose and generous with vanilla and
cinnamon on the palate, while the light
pot still spices shine through on the
long, satisfying finish.
The Method and Madness 28 Year Old is the second aged release in the
Method and Madness range and the first
aged single pot still whiskey in the
range and as much as I would love to, I
haven't had the chance to taste this so
I cant comment on its quality, on paper
it is very appealing indeed and you will
find the short official tasting note for
the whiskey below.
Dave McCabe, Apprentice Blender at
Midleton Distillery, commented on the 28
year old limited edition, saying:
"Method and Madness 28 Year Old Ruby
Port Pipe marks the realisation of a
22-year-old prediction from the Midleton
Masters, which stated that the marriage
of flavours between a single pot still
Irish whiskey and a Port pipe will one
day achieve balance. Billy Leighton, our
Master Blender, and I have been
carefully monitoring the slowly evolving
flavours of this rare and exceptional
cask as part of my training as
Apprentice Blender. It gives us great
pleasure to be able to present it as the
perfect harmony between whiskey, Port
and wood."
Method and Madness 28 Year Old Ruby Port
Pipe Cask No. 38624 is a limited release
of 486 bottles and considering that it
is 28 year old it has been bottled at a
very impressive cask strength of 56.1%
ABV. It will be available in the UK,
France and Ireland (including Irish and
French travel retail) and as you can
imagine for such a rare and unique
release you will need deep pockets if
you want to taste this one, it has a RRP
of €1,900.
You will soon find the new single pot
still additions to the Method and Madness whiskey range
as well as the existing expressions available
from specialist online whisky retailers such as The Whisky Exchange
and
Master of
Malt
The other new recent release in the
Method and Madness range is the Method
and Madness Virgin Hungarian Oak Finish
Single Cask Single Pot Still whiskey
