The Malt Whisky Yearbook 2013
is more than just a reference guide it
is also a fascinating look into the
world of whisky and a pleasure to read.
I haven't done a book review for a
while, and this is one I am sure many of
you will already be familiar with as it
has been around a few years now.
The Malt Whisky Yearbook 2013 is the 8th
edition of this whisky facts packed book
which is fully revised every year and is
an essential resource for checking
whisky facts on over 200 malt whisky
distilleries from all over the world and
I am sure like me many of you look
forward to the new edition every year.
For those of you not familiar with the
Malt Whisky Yearbook, it contains
everything you want to know about malt
whisky, from history timelines to
current facts & figures about each
operating malt whisky distillery in
Scotland and there current range of
whisky.
There is also info on
Scotland's new distilleries such as the
giant Roseisle and Ailsa Bay and the
smaller Daftmill as well as info on the
closed and some gone forever
distilleries such as Port Ellen and
Brora.
It lists more than 200
tasting notes describing the flavours of
single malts from all the working
distilleries in Scotland giving you an
idea of the style of whisky each of
these distilleries produce.
The
Yearbook is not just about Scotland's
distilleries the book also includes info
on many distilleries from around the
world including Japan, Canada, USA,
Europe and more.
It isn't just a
facts a figures book either you will
also find some intriguing articles about
whisky and the people who make it.
You will find contributions from
distinguished whisky writers such as
Charles MacLean, Gavin Smith, Ian
Buxton, Dominic Roskrow, Ian Wisniewski,
Jonny McCormick, and Nicholas Coldicott
who have all penned features exclusively
for the Yearbook.
You will also
find a
comprehensive summary of The Whisky Year
That Was including all the latest news
and statistics for the year.
Beautifully illustrated with over 500
photographs and most of them new since
last years edition, the Malt Whisky
Yearbook 2013 is more than just a
reference guide for any serious whisky
drinker it is also a fascinating look
into the world of whisky and the people
who make it. A book that any whisky
enthusiast, whether a beginner or
connoisseur can read for pleasure.
One distillery which Ignvar doesn't
mention in the book is the
giant Midleton distillery in Ireland, I know it produces the unique
Irish single pot still whiskey and not
malt whisky but I would love to see the
facts and figures about Midleton added
to the book as the
distillery produces a large percentage
of the Irish whiskey sold throughout the
world.
