The Macallan 1991 unveiled as this years addition to the Fine & Rare Collection.

As its name suggests, "The Macallan Rare Collection", is a collection of The Macallan's oldest maturing stock and the arguably the greatest range of vintage Scotch single malt ever released. Every year the range is augmented by the introduction of a new vintage release and this year the distillery has unveiled The Macallan 1991 as the newest addition to the Fine & Rare collection. The Macallan 1991 joins the rare collection of vintages which represent a liquid history of The Macallan, offering insights into the aroma and flavours characteristic of this single malt stretching back to the earliest release in the Fine & Rare Collection which was distilled in 1926.

The Macallan Fine & Rare collection, created to identify the very best of The Macallan’s finest maturing stock, features some of the greatest vintage Macallan single malts ever released and the 1991 vintage is the next chapter in this liquid history of The Macallan, offering new insights into the aroma and flavour characteristic of this single malt.

The Macallan 1991 was distilled and filled to cask on March 28th 1991, cask No. 7021, an American oak Vasyma puncheon sherry seasoned in Jerez, Spain. After 25 years maturing it was selected by The Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker, Bob Dalgarno for the The Macallan Rare Collection. It was bottled at 49.4% ABV, deemed by the Bob to be the ideal strength to fully realise and appreciate the intense yet soft palate of the 25 year old 1991 vintage.

In December 2016, a selection of The Macallan Fine & Rare bottlings from 1937 to 1990 was sold to a collector for US $500,000, breaking the record for the largest ever travel retail sale.
