limited edition Laphroaig 6 Year Old
2011 Vintage single cask bottling to
mark their 10th Anniversary.
The single cask Laphroaig was bottled
for them by The Creative Whisky Co for
their Exclusive Malts series, this is
the third release marking The Whisky
Barrel's 10th Anniversary and I am sure
being a single cask Laphroaig that it
will be of interest to a few of you.
The Laphroaig 6 Year Old was distilled
on the 5th May 2011 then matured in a
single refill sherry hogshead cask
no.195 before being bottled in August
2017 at 58.7% ABV. A limited edition of
only 337 bottles, each of which is
individually numbered.
As the peaty whisky fans amongst you
know, bottling a peaty whisky at a young
age that has had a sherry cask influence
can potentially make for a very
interesting whisky. The Whisky Barre
describe it as "a full strength
Laphroaig whisky" but say that "it’s not
overwhelming". They go on to say that
"for Laphroaig lovers, it’s all there
but characteristic Laphroaig punch has
been tamed a little by the sherry cask.
It’s very approachable".

The Whisky Barrel's Tasting Notes:
Nose: Good hints of salted
caramel and seaweed. Strong sherry and
slightly oaky.
Taste: It has a lovely smooth
mouthfeel with a striking sweetness from
the sherry cask and warming toffee. But
this merges in with the classic, famous
and satisfying peaty notes with hints of
seaweed and bonfire.
Finish: Beautifully long and
lingering. Plenty of warmth and the
continuation of the balanced peat and
sweetness.
