Become Iain
McArthur's apprentice and discover the
story of Lagavulin first hand.

Here is a competition I think a few of
you will want to win.
The Lagavulin distillery on the Isle of
Islay are offering whisky lovers the
chance to win a two day whisky
apprenticeship at the distillery under the
guidance of Iain McArthur who has spent
the last 42 years working at the
Lagavulin distillery.
The
exclusive apprenticeship will see the
successful applicant plus one very lucky
friend join Iain for two days at the
legendary Lagavulin Distillery where you
will discover the secrets and traditions
behind making this definitive Islay
malt.
While serving your two day
apprenticeship your duties will include:
- Peat Cutting - They’ve got
plenty peat on Islay which is
so important to the Lagavulin
character. They’ll show you the
ropes and take you back to days gone
by with a few stories; but don’t
forget your wellies, the peat moss
is a muddy place!
- Malt Distilling - You will
discover the traditional craft of
making Lagavulin, from start to
finish. You might find a few friends
around the distillery to help you on
your way. After all, it was through
knowledge being passed down that
Lagavulin were able to get to where
they are today!
- Warehousing - When you know a
bit about how the whisky is made
you’ll be in a good place to learn
all about Maturation and the art of
being a Warehouseman. In Iain
McArthur's 42 years as a
Warehouseman he has picked up a few
secrets... He may may share a few
with you.
- Tea Making -
An essential part of any
apprenticeship, Iain likes his with
just a drop of milk. Only kidding -
there’ll be plenty tea and good
Islay fare to keep you going while
you’re there.
- Whisky Tasting - There’s no
drinking on the job, but after a
hard day’s work, you’ll get to taste
some of Lagavulin’s unique single
cask whiskies.
If they don't wear you out on your
first day, you’ll spend Day Two
exploring the beautiful Isle of Islay,
the delicious food and historic
buildings before settling in for a final
night at the exclusive Port Charlotte
Hotel.
To be in with a chance of winning the
apprenticeship, you’ve got to be
passionate about whisky. You need to
give plenty of good reasons why they
should choose you, and you will need to
get other folk to vote for you too. If
you think you’re up to the challenge,
that is…
There’ll be a signed bottle of Lagavulin
for the 50 applicants with the most
votes too.
So if you think you are up to the job
then you can apply at

Note that applications close on the 31st
March 2013 and work begins on June 2013.
If you are a member of the
