Whisky Focus - Lagavulin 25 Year Old 200th Anniversary Limited Edition

Lagavulin 25 Year Old 200th Anniversary bottling honours 200 years of distillery managers at the Islay distillery.

Following on from the release of the Lagavulin 8 year 200th Anniversary bottling earlier this year the distillery is continuing its bicentennial celebrations with the announcement of the forthcoming release of an extra special limited edition bottling this September, the Lagavulin 25 Year Old 200th Anniversary Limited Edition bottling which will be a release of 8,000 bottles worldwide and will have a retail recommended price of £799 / US$1,185.

The Lagavulin 25 Year Old 200th Anniversary bottling honours 200 years of distillery managers, it recognises the contribution the Lagavulin distillery managers have made in crafting Lagavulin over the past 200 years and the bottle will feature the names of the distillery managers.

Matured exclusively in sherry casks this should appeal to the Lagavulin fans amongst you (with deep pockets), it will be bottled at cask strength but the exact strength wont be known until the whisky is bottled as it is still maturing in the casks.

Current Lagavulin distillery manager, Georgie Crawford, commented: "For two centuries, Lagavulin has been crafted through the hands of hard working Islay residents; from peat cutters to warehousemen; the characters that make Lagavulin what it is today share a passion for producing an award winning Islay dram, and I am proud to say that I am part of this passionate group of people."

Unlike the Lagavulin 8 year old, the Lagavulin 25 year old will be a one off release, it should be in specialist whisky shops such as The Whisky Exchange in September 2016.
