Review of the
new Kilchoman Red Wine Cask Matured
whisky.
 Kilchoman
have just released just under 10,000
bottles of their latest creation, the
Kilchoman Red Wine Cask Matured single
single malt whisky.
Kilchoman Red Wine Cask Matured was
distilled in 2012 and has been matured
full term in red wine casks, from the
Douro Valley in Portugal.
Previous Kilchoman full term wine cask
matured limited release expressions such
as the Port, Madeira and Sauternes
matured expressions have been
outstanding and I am sure this new
Kilchoman Red Wine Cask Matured will be
welcomed by fans of the Islay farm
distillery.
Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder
commented on the new whisky, saying: "We
are delighted with the Red Wine Cask
Matured, it’s unlike anything we’ve
bottled previously, the full-flavoured
influence of the Douro valley red wine
casks have added depth, body and layers
of rounded cooked fruits to the classic
Kilchoman citrus sweetness and peat
smoke character."
The
Kilchoman Red Wine Cask Matured is of
course non chill-filtered and has been bottled at
50% ABV, it has a RRP of £78.80 and will be available from specialist whisky shops such as
Master of
Malt

William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Gentle vanilla oak tannin and ripe
fruits, a hint of peat smoke and woody
spice.
Taste:
Deliciously moreish mild Kilchoman peat
smoke infused with ripe red berry fruits
and a hint of rich oaky spice, a little
bitter dark chocolate keeps the sugars
in place.
Finish:
A wonderfully long rich sweet finish
bitters out leaving some mildly drying
oak.
Comment:
A different Kilchoman where the
deliciously moreish fruit takes the lead
but the gentle Kilchoman peat is
determined and still has its say. A
cracking young Kilchoman. I wonder just
how good this would be after a few more
years in the cask, hopefully the folks
at Kilchoman have some
more whisky in their warehouse still
maturing in red wine casks from the
Douro Valley in Portugal. Meanwhile I
can say this is another cracking whisky
from the Islay farm distillery.
