Review of the
limited release Kilchoman Port Cask
Matured 2018 Edition
 Kilchoman
Port Cask Matured 2018 Edition is the
2nd Port Cask matured whisky from the
Islay farm distillery and given the
quality of the first release back in
2014 this has a lot to live up to.
The 2018 edition is a vatting of thirty
ruby port hogsheads filled in 2014,
yielding a total of 10,000 bottles. The
distillery’s commitment to full term
maturation has continued, with the
decision to age only in port casks
rather than using such barrels for
finishing, this gives the whisky an
added dimension and intensity.
Non chill-filtered and natural colour
and a peating level of 50PPM the
Kilchoman Port Cask Matured 2018 has
been bottled at 50.% ABV and will be available from specialist
online whisky shops such as
The Whisky Exchange
and
Master of Malt while stocks last.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose: A deliciously fruity
nose, sweet raisin, plum a touch of
orange, creamy toffee and smouldering
ashy smoke.
Taste:
The rich sweet port cask fruit leads
with a touch of damson jam, orange and a
fresh raisiny fruitiness, the ashy
Kilchoman peat smoke is not far behind
and simply dances in the mouth with the
port cask fruits.
Finish:
The luscious port rich fruit charged
with Kilchoman's sweet ashy smoke
continues long into the finish
Comment:
A deliciously perfect balanced mix of
peat and port from nose to finish. This
is the second Port Cask matured whisky
from the folks at Kilchoman, the first
one in 2014 was a cracker and this is
every bit as good, in fact better. If
you enjoy a fruity port influence on a
smoky whisky I doubt you will come
across much better than this. For its
age and strength at 50% ABV this is
unbelievably smooth. Going by the fact
the last Port Cask Matured release from
Kilchoman was back in 2014 I would say
grab a bottle of this while you can as
rarely do you find a such a perfect
balance of peat and port. An outstanding
whisky.
