Review of
the exclusively Oloroso sherry matured
Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2019 Edition.
 The
Kilchoman Loch Gorm release is an
exclusively sherry matured limited
edition annual release from the Islay
farm distillery which has been a feature
of the Kilchoman range since 2012.
Over the past 7 years the Loch Gorm
range of limited edition releases have
been evolving, with each new edition
containing a different combination of
casks and as time passes, an
increasingly mature combination.
This latest Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2019 Edition
is no different, the 2019 release is a
combination of twenty specially selected
Oloroso sherry butts from 2006, 2007,
2008, 2009 and 2011 which if you do the
maths means that for the first time Loch
Gorm will contain 12 and 13 year old
casks from the Kilchoman warehouses.

fascinating to see first-hand how the
character of our Oloroso butts have
developed over the years. Recent
editions of Loch Gorm have seen a
coming-of-age for the range, the
addition 12 and 13 year old casks add a
fantastic balance and complexity.
"Layers of stewed plums, pears and
tropical fruit have become more defined
in the casks as they age, complimenting
the bold spicy and rich character of
early releases to create a beautiful
marriage of Kilchoman and Oloroso sherry
cask maturation. I’m delighted with the
2019 release and look forward seeing how
it’s received."

Morrison's Tasting Notes::
Nose:
Gentle earthy and a little sooty peat
smoke infused with some gentle orange
citrus, a little sweet vanilla toffee,
just a touch of cinnamon and just a
little oak spice lurking in the
background.
Taste:
A delicious balance of vanilla toffee
and deliciously sweet mild creamy
sherried peat leads the charge, followed
by a little sea saltiness and some late
oak spice.
Finish:
Long, some lovely gentle smoky bacon
peat lingers for an age, some orange &
lemon citrus, pear, a touch of dark
chocolate and some lovely oak spices
Comment:
Just like earlier Kilchoman Loch Gorm
releases, this is no sherried monster,
this is a refined, lightly sherried, peaty
Kilchoman and a very good one. Over the
years since its introduction I have
received samples of the Loch Gorm from
Kilchoman and the past couple of years I
have went out and purchased a bottle for
myself and this year is no different, it
is a fantastic balance of Kilchoman peat
and gentle Oloroso sherry, I would loved
to have tasted this at a little higher
strength but at its bottling strength of
46% it is outstanding. Kilchoman really
has come of age now and I have no doubt
that it is their creative use of both
their young and old stock when putting
together expressions like Loch Gorm that
makes it so good.
