Review of the
Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2018 Edition
The
second of two Kilchoman limited releases
being launched this Monday 23rd April. The now well-established Kilchoman Loch
Gorm release is an exclusively sherry
matured limited edition which has been a
feature of the Kilchoman range since
2012. This Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2018
Edition is a release of 15,000 bottles
which is made up of nineteen Oloroso
sherry butts filled in 2007, 2008 and
2011, containing some of the oldest
sherry casks ever filled at Kilchoman.
The Loch Gorm is the only global release
from Kilchoman that is matured solely in
sherry casks,
Non chill-filtered and natural colour
it has
been bottled at
46.% ABV, it is a limited release and
will be available from specialist online
whisky shops such as
The Whisky Exchange
and
Master of Malt while stocks last.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Gentle earthy peat smoke interlaced with
a touch of lemon and orange citrus and a
little oak spice.
Taste:
The earthy peat smoke is slightly more
medicinal in the mouth leads, it is
followed by a mild creamed sherried
fruitiness and oaky spiciness.
Finish:
Sugars from the oak and sherry gather
and join the mouth coating peat smoke,
the mildly drying sherry oak and smoke
slowly fade out.
Comment:
This shows a little more maturity than
previous Loch Gorm releases, as in
earlier releases the Kilchoman peat
smoke and sherry are very compatible
partners.
