Whisky Focus - Kilchoman 100% Islay 5th Edition

Kilchoman release the 5th and oldest edition to date of their popular lower peated level Kilchoman 100% Islay.

Just as summer approaches Kilchoman have announced there 2nd release of the year, the Kilchoman 100% Islay 5th Edition which is a vatting of ex-bourbon barrels filled in 2009 and 2010. This will be bottled at 50% ABV, natural colour, non chill-filtered and has a RRP of £67.50.

First released in 2010, the annually released limited edition bottling is 100% produced at the small Islay farm distillery – from barley to bottle. The barley is grown, malted, distilled, matured and bottled at Kilchoman making for a unique character. All editions are bottled at 50% ABV and peated to a lower level to that their other releases, 100% Islay has a lighter, fresher feel to it compared to the Machir Bay and Loch Gorm.

Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder and Managing Director commented: "There is a clear difference between the 100% Islay range and other releases, the lighter peating level and maturation exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels gives the whisky a beautiful fragrance and balance.

"When we first set out to build Kilchoman the ambition was to produce a single malt from barley grown on the distillery farm to give complete control and traceability, we also wanted to echo how whisky was once made on Islay and across Scotland.
