Review of
the Jura Tastival 2017.
The
Jura Tastival 2017 bottling is the
latest limited edition release in
the Island distillery's series of annual
releases to mark the distillery's whisky festival which is run as
part of the annual Feis Ile Festival.
This years Jura Tastival 2017 is the
first Limited Edition release to be
overseen by new Jura Distillery Manager,
Graham Logan, who took over from Willie
Cochrane in September 2016.
Graham has chosen a style of Jura which
we have not seen much of, a Jura whisky
with a Port cask influence. To be exact
the Tastival 2017 expression is a
marriage of Jura whisky which have been
matured in both first fill American
White Oak ex-bourbon barrels and
hand-selected Graham’s Port Pipes
sourced from Portugal’s lush Douro
Valley.
The
Jura Tastival 2017 is non chill
filtered, bottled at a cask strength 51% ABV it has a RRP of £85 and is available from specialist whisky retailers such
as
Master of
Malt

Jura Tastival 2017 Review

William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose: Delicate fruits and creamy
fudge.
Taste: Zesty orange, raisins
and cherry is joined by some lovely
spiced oak and toffee.
Finish: A long lingering finish,
the fruit is now liquorice coated, it
fades into a
gentle dry nutty oakiness.
Comment: A great first Tastival
release from Graham Logan,
he has selected some good Port
casks and balanced them well with the
first fill bourbon casks. A little shy
at first on the nose but delicious on
the palate, the fruit has
more to say in this marriage and the
51% ABV strength
just adds to the pleasure.
SMW Score 89/100
