Johnnie Walker Select Casks Rye Cask Finish now available in travel retail.
Johnnie Walker Select Casks Rye Cask Finish was launched late last year across the US and I spotted it in World of Whiskies shop at Glasgow airport last week so I thought I would give it a mention for the Johnnie Walker fans amongst you, which I know there are many.
Johnnie Walker Select Casks Rye Cask Finish is the first in a series of limited edition wood finished Scotch blended whiskies that will be released over the coming years, I believe there will be a new annual limited edition each year but don't quote me on that, each will feature a different wood finish especially crafted for us whisky enthusiasts.
Unlike most of the the Johnnie Walker range the Select Casks Rye Cask Finish carries an age statement, it is a 10 year old whisky and I am pleased to say that it has been bottled at 46% ABV.
JW say that it has Cardhu single malt whisky at the heart of the blend, which is pretty common in most Johnnie Walker blends, it was matured for at least 10 years in first-fill American Oak casks then finished in ex-rye whiskey casks. JW say it has created a complex whisky with rich layers of flavour starting with creamy vanilla notes and as you may have guessed transitioning to a more spicy finish.
As I said it was launched late last year in the US, I was surprised to see it at Glasgow airport last week as I have had no announcement from Diageo saying it was heading this way but worth watching for if you are a Johnnie Walker fan and enjoy vanilla and spice in your glass of JW. You will find it at the airport priced at £39.99 for a 1 litre bottle.
You will find the current Johnnie Walker range available from specialist whisky shops such as
