Park Viking Tribe single
malt whisky is a new expression from the
Orkney Island distillery which will be
available exclusively from
Amazon
here in the UK which,
not that we really needed one, is another
sign of
how the western worlds biggest online shop has
now become a major player in the premium
whisky market.
Similar to the recently released
Highland Park 18 Year Old Viking Pride
Travel Edition the new
Highland Park Viking Tribe has been
bottled at its marrying strength, 46%
ABV and of course like other Highland
Park expressions it is naturally
coloured, taking its colour only from the
casks it matured in.
Highland Park say that bottling the
Viking Tribe at 46% ABV as opposed to
40% or 43% strength which we would
normally see Highland Park bottled at
has allowed the whisky to be filtered at
a higher ambient temperature. The result
they say is intensified flavours of
citrus fruits, sweet vanilla and peppery
spices, balanced with Highland Park's
characteristic aromatic smokiness.
The term 'marrying strength' refers to
the marrying process, which gives this
whisky valuable time to harmonise in the
cask before being bottled. A
deliberately slow and unhurried stage,
long since abandoned by many
distilleries, cask harmonisation remains
one of the five keystones of Highland
Park production. The selected casks are
combined together with natural spring
water to reduce the strength of this
whisky to 46% ABV, before leaving the
newly married spirit to rest in casks
for at least a month. During that
resting period, flavours from the
different casks harmonise, gathering
depth and consistency.
The new Highland Park Viking Tribe will
be released on the 20th November priced
£43 and is now currently available to
pre-ordered exclusively from
Amazon
