Highland Park launch ICE Edition 17 year old

The Highland Park fans amongst you will be pleased to hear that the distillery has launched a new limited edition named Highland Park ICE Edition 17 Year Old.

As we have come to expect from the island distillery the marketing surrounding this new release, entertaining as ever, celebrates the Viking roots of the brand’s Orkney Island home, where the Norse influence and culture were woven for hundreds of years before Highland Park single malt whisky was created.

You will be pleased to hear that the distillery describe it as naturally vivid and radiant in colour with a very respectable 53.9% ABV bottling strength, this special edition has been aged predominantly in ex-bourbon casks and is limited globally to 30,000 bottles.

I haven't had the chance to taste this but the official tasting note for the new HP ICE is below, as you can see the tasting note is mixed up with some marketing spin trying to connect the ICE name of the whisky with how it tastes, I do wonder how accurate and descriptive the tasting note is when they do this, so I cant vouch for the accuracy of the tasting note.

Like the Valhalla series, HP have gotten creative with the packaging, the new Highland Park ICE Edition is presented in a mountain shaped wooden cradle with accompanying wooden stopper. The intricate circle design on the label itself represents the circle of life – the creation of the world, protected by a dragon, a mythical creature often central in classic Norse mythology. The accompanying booklet recounts the story of the realm of the Ice Giants and their wonderfully colourful battle against the Gods to rule the world.

Highland Park ICE Edition will be followed by FIRE Edition in 2017 and follows on from the recent highly rated Valhalla Collection Thor, Loki, Freya and Odin..
