Great King
Street New York Blend Limited Edition.
Compass
Box have announced the release of the
first in a series of one-off, regional
Scotch whisky blends under their Great
King Street label - the Great King
Street New York Blend.
Created for the 2012 New York Whisky
Fest, the whisky is dedicated to Patrick
J. Duffy, the man who legend has it was
responsible for the first branded and
bottled Scotch whisky to arrive in New
York in 1894. The blend is based on an
actual recipe from the 1890s.
Back then, Blended Scotch featured much
higher proportions of malt whisky than
recipes of today. The New York Blend
aligns perfectly with the Compass Box
desire for Great King Street to offer
different blends for different regions,
people and tastes.
The New York Blend is made up of 80%
malt whisky from the regions of Islay,
the Highlands and Speyside and 20%
Lowland grain whisky. A quarter of the
recipe is from heavy-peated single
malts, mostly from Islay.
Matured mostly in first-fill American
oak casks combined with refill
ex-Bourbon and Sherry casks for
additional complexity. A limited release
of only 1800 bottles, bottled at 46% ABV and as with all bottlings from
Compass Box it is bottled at natural
colour and without chill-filtering.
The Great King Street New York Blend is
a hearty, full-flavoured style of
Blended Scotch whisky with notes of
smoke, dried fruits and malty
complexity.
The New York Blend which was launched on
Saturday 27th October will only be
available in the US, primarily in the
New York Metropolitan area. However,
there will also be a few bottles available
for sale in the UK from the
whisky specialist shops.
