The
Glenmorangie Company has sold the Scotch
Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) to a group of
private investors.

I
thought I would give this a quick mention as I
know there are a few Scotch Malt Whisky
Society members amongst you. The
Glenmorangie Company has sold the Scotch
Malt Whisky Society to a group of
private investors to allow the group to
focus on its Ardbeg and Glenmorangie
brands.
The Glenmorangie Company acquired the
SMWS back in 2004 and since that time
has helped the society membership swell
to over 26,000 members worldwide, with
branches in 19 countries.
As you will probably know the Society bottles one of the widest
selection of single cask single malts to
be found anywhere from over 129
different distilleries exclusively for
its members. It bottles around 350
single casks every year and each and
every bottling is unique and limited in
quantity.
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society which was first
founded in Edinburgh in 1983,
where it is still based at The Vaults,
its spiritual home in Edinburgh, has
been intriguing, entertaining and
delighting its members with some of the
very best single cask, single malt
whisky available on the planet. It is a
curious and unique fellowship of whisky
lovers, Society members share a passion
for the exceptional quality and endless
variety of Scotch malt whisky.
So who are the new owners I hear you
ask, well this has as yet not been
revealed, all I know is that it is an
unnamed group of private investors who
will now take over the society’s
management.
