Distillery
workers mark 125th anniversary of the
original Christmas spirit with a
Glenfiddich bottle Christmas tree.

Workers at The Glenfiddich Distillery in
Dufftown are marking the single malt’s
125th anniversary with the creation of a
unique Glenfiddich bottle Christmas
tree.
The tree, towering over ten feet high,
will has pride of place at the
distillery’s Dufftown home and has been
made using 665 of the single malt’s
unique triangular green bottles. It has
been built in homage to the first drop
of spirit that flowed from Glenfiddich’s
stills on Christmas Day 1887.
The Glenfiddich Distillery was founded
by William Grant and remains wholly
owned by the fifth generation of his
family today. William set out to create
the finest dram in the valley and now,
125 years later, his pioneering spirit
set Glenfiddich on a path to become the
world’s best-selling and most awarded
single malt Scotch whisky.
Stuart Watts, Dufftown Site Leader at
The Glenfiddich Distillery said: "The
bottle tree is the perfect tribute to
the 125th birthday of Glenfiddich, the
original Christmas spirit. The fact it
was created by our distillery workers
makes it even more special."
Under the guidance of Andy Fairgrieve,
coordinator of Glenfiddich’s Artists in
Residence project, distillery engineers
and bottling hall staff worked together
to build and light the tree.
Andy Fairgrieve said: "Making the tree
was quite a challenge but we are
delighted with the result and what it
stands for. Christmas marks a key date
in the company’s history and it seemed
appropriate to create something special
and festive especially since it is 125
years since the first drop of spirit
flowed from the distillery’s stills." |
