The
GlenDronach Forgue 10 Year Old, the
first ever travel retail exclusive
expression from The GlenDronach
distillery.
Here is one which you will have to
dust off your passport to get a hold of,
The GlenDronach Distillery has unveiled
its first ever travel retail exclusive
expression, The GlenDronach Forgue 10
Year Old.
The GlenDronach Forgue 10 Year Old has
been matured in a combination of Oloroso
and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, bottled
at 43% ABV, and as is the case for all
The GlenDronach expressions, it is
non-chill filtered and naturally
coloured, absorbing its rich colour over
the 10 years it has spent maturing in
the Spanish sherry oak.
The GlenDonach Forgue celebrates the
rich heritage and terroir of the Forgue
valley, where founder James Allardice
built the distillery and named it
'GlenDronach', which means 'Valley of
the brambles' in Scots Gaelic, bramble
is a Scottish word for a blackberry.
GlenDronach Master Blender, Rachel
Barrie commented on her latest creation,
saying:
“The GlenDronach Forgue Aged 10 Years is
a richly sherried single malt with an
unashamedly Highland character. Matured
in fine Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry
casks, the result is a cornucopia of
bramble fruit and oak, combined with
notes of harvest-ripe barley, as found
in Forgue’s rich and fertile landscape.
"The GlenDronach is a distillery known
across the globe for its authenticity,
craftsmanship and sherry cask maturation
expertise. It is an honour to carry on
this tradition, through sharing our
first ever travel retail exclusive
release from the valley of Forgue with
world travellers."
Presented in a 1 litre as
you would expect a travel retail
bottling to be but sadly is becoming
less common these days, with a price tag
of around £59/US $77, this may vary
depending where you are in the world.
If you have no plans to travel in the
near future you can still explore the current
GlenDronach whisky range which you will
find available from
specialist online whisky retailers such

The GlenDronach Forgue 10 Year Old Review
|
Review added 29th September 2018.
Bottled at 43% ABV..
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A subtle nose. Some lovely mild orange,
cherry, a little vanilla custard, a
touch of pear and a little oak spice.
Taste:
Medium bodied, a smooth sherried
fruit delivery leads with orange,
raisins and blackberries. The orange
becomes more zesty and is joined by some
nutmeg and gentle peppery oak spice.
Finish:
A lovely longish finish, see's the zesty
orange and peppery spice slowly fade to
leave some tobacco and lovely mildly
drying oak.
Comment:
The nose is more subtle than the
standard GlenDronach 12 year old you may
be familiar with but it still has that
delicious GlenDronach sherried DNA. A
little lighter bodied on the palate than
the 12. Basically you could say that
this is a 10 year old version of
the the excellent 12 year old. Certainly
one to look out for next time you are
passing through the airport and it is
always good to see a whisky with a clear
age statement presented in a 1 litre
bottle in travel retail, as age
statements and the larger 1 litre bottle
size are getting rarer on the airport
whisky shop shelves these days.
