Review of GlenDronach
Cask Strength Batch 6 single malt.
GlenDronach
Cask Strength Batch 6 is the latest
release in this popular series which
offers whisky connoisseurs the
opportunity to enjoy The GlenDronach as
it is straight from the cask, non
chill-filtered, natural in colour and,
in the case of this batch, at 56.1% ABV
cask strength.
Matured in a combination of Oloroso and
Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, GlenDronach
tell me that this latest Cask Strength
expression has hints of dark chocolate,
ripe figs and yellow plums. This new
Batch 6 is sure to be popular given that
Batch 5 of Cask Strength, released last
year at 55.3% picked up a Gold award in
the 2016 World Whisky Awards.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Sweet rum and raisins, orange, toffee a
touch of coffee and just a hint of
marzipan.
Taste:
Deliciously thick Demerara sweet entry
with raisins, sultanas, lovely dark
chocolate orange, a light touch of
vanilla all helped along by some warming
spice.
Finish: Medium to long finish.
The sweetness and sherried fruit fades
leaving vibrant spice and a little
vanilla and toffee.
Comment:
An outstanding nose and palate,
disappears just a little quicker than I
would have liked on the finish, but I am
just nit picking here, besides this is
easily remedied by another mouthful.
Another cracking addition to what is now
a well established series of sherried
cask strength whiskies. I wouldn't be
surprised if some of these early bottles
in the series become collectable in
time.
