Review of the
new GlenDronach 14 Year Old which was finished in
a small batch of Marsala hogsheads
casks.
The
GlenDronach 14 Year Old Marsala Cask
Finish is the latest limited edition
release in the GlenDronach wood finishes
range. It was originally matured in
European oak casks and then it was
finished in a small batch of Marsala
hogsheads casks. Marsala is a dryish,
sweet fortified wine produced on the
Italian island of Sicily.
Bottled at 46% ABV, non chill-filtered
and natural in colour,
GlenDronach describe the whisky as
deliciously balanced, bringing ripe
orchard fruits and delicate, sweet oak
spices to the traditional, robust
Highland character.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
An enticing sweet candied fruitiness, a
delicate touch of vanilla and oak spice.
Taste:
A barley sugar candy sweetness, a
delicious blend of candied pear and
orange followed by a little creamy
vanilla and lovely Scottish butter
tablet, a dusting of pepper and some
lovely oak which appears older than its
14 years.
Finish: The fruitiness fades
leaving the lingering mildly drying
sweet mature oak.
Comment:
This one grew on me with each mouthful
to the point were I couldn't resist and
just had to pour another dram. A
delicious dram and a great alternative
to your classic sherry cask matured
GlenDronach expressions. Get it while
you can as these GlenDronach bottlings
don't tend to hang around on the shelf
for long.
